Valency engine is the online archive of a real world idea. It is the daily magazine of a coalition of creatively ambitious photographers, building a library of thoughts, ideas, observations. Constantly growing, learning, evolving this website serves to illustrate where we are and to signal where we want to be.
Alison, Matt, Morten, Patrick and Tim have between them; travelled the world, lived in Europe, America, Japan, Canada, South America, built photography studio’s, shot major ad campaigns, completed degrees at the RCA, had children, taxonomically described the most esoteric collections at Kew. They have had successful exhibitions and been featured in the national press. Between them they can speak several languages, cook exotic food, drive a tank, row a single scull on the Cam, describe the innermost workings of autotrophic organisms and climb a rock face. All live rich, passionate, expressive lives, photography is a choice, not just as a profession or a craft but as a way of life and a declaration of spirit. All of this energy finds its focus point at the Lionworks Studio in London’s Hackney Wick in the centre of the capitals fastest growing artistic community on the very edge of the rapidly changing 2012 Olympic site.
Engaged in constant peer review, collaborative projects, intellectual and technical research our desire is to use Valency Engine to connect ideas to people, illustrate enquiry with experience and manifest desire as tangible image. We strive to take complex ideas and emotions and produce work that is simple, legible, real and approachable, our work is to create a conduit to transmit thought and feeling to a wider world.
